SuperLite’s Elite Battle for Points Lead at San Bernardino’s Glen Helen Raceway

Thursday, 19 May 2011 14:30

Superlite Championship Series (Round 5 & 6) is happening this weekend, and this is something we thought would be of interest. Here is the highlight video with all the action from Round 4 in Arizona. If you have any questions about the release below, please do not hesitate to email us, thank you!

  • Hometown favorites RJ Anderson, Chad George sit at the top of points standings

RENO, NV— A showdown looms this weekend on the dirt track of Glen Helen Raceway May 21 and 22 in what could be a decisive weekend in the hotly contested 16-race SuperLite Series Championship. Red-hot racer Jacob Person will battle two formidable hometown favorites — overall points leader RJ Anderson and veteran podium-placer Chad George — before a notoriously vocal, and packed, San Bernardino stadium.

But while Anderson, George and Person make up the race’s likely frontrunners, the unpredictable nature of SuperLite, illustrated by Jacob Person’s dramatic sweep of first-place at his hometown Surprise, Ariz. stadium in SuperLite rounds 3 and 4, leaves the door open for a talented cast of aggressive racers hungry for the podium. Person, who had not won a SuperLite race in his career, dominated the competition for back-to-back wins in Arizona in mid-April, and in one weekend catapulted himself into the hunt for the overall points championship.

The razor-thin margins separating SuperLite’s elite in the overall points standings, will have each racer pinning the pedal to the floor over challenging moguls, through tight turns and entering Glen Helen’s gravity-defying jumps.

Walker-Evans-sponsored Anderson won the first stop of the series and has not relinquished his grip on the points lead since. But Kawasaki’s Chad George, who narrowly missed taking the championship last season, sits right behind him in second, 15 points off the lead. Tightly packed behind Anderson and George, sit Las Vegas’s Pat Clark (third), followed by Person. Only seven points separate Clark and Person.

A big weekend like Person’s performance in Arizona could upset the points rankings and launch a racer into prime position for a podium finish in the championship. Watch for talented young drivers like Wyatt Kirchner, currently 15 points out of third place, and Torchmate-sponsored Dawson Kirchner to race fast and hard, shooting for a top finish to push them up in the points standings.

Expect the hometown crowd to erupt in vocal support for Anderson and George — two drivers with families deeply rooted in the Southern California off-road tradition.

But before the races begin, the SuperLite stop in Glen Helen will get off to a somber start, as the entire SuperLite family pays tribute to a fellow competitor, friend, exceptional athlete and world-class person.

Jeff “Ox” Kargola, who piloted the General Tire SuperLite truck to one win and a top-five position in the first four stops of the series, died tragically last month while riding the “Rip To The Tip” adventure motorcycle ride in Baja. The entire Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series will launch its two-day race weekend at Glen Helen Raceway with a special opening ceremony tribute to begin at 2 p.m. this Saturday, May 21.

Kargola first rose to prominence as a world-famous motocross athlete, but proved equally skilled at desert racing and short-course stadium dirt contests. He is being remembered by the SuperLite family as a humble, fun-loving, generous person with a thousand-watt smile
