"I'm a pro BMX dirt jumper that is now transitioning into SuperLite trucks," says pro BMX dirt jumper Lavin, who turned pro at the age of 19 and has won nearly every notable BMX competition ranging from the X Games, to the Dew Action Sports Tour and the coveted Gravity Games.
"So far, I really, really love it. I'm addicted to it. This is my thing." says Lavin of his SuperLite experience. "I knew it since I was a little kid that I would be a truck racer some day. It just so happens to be today."
"Compared to bike riding, truck driving is a lot more rough, so to speak. It's crazy. You're in a washing machine and you're a shoe. So, it's like you're hard and everything's jumping around pretty good," says Lavin of stepping up into the arena of off-road racing action in comparison to the throttle-less world of bicycles. "BMX everything has to be real smooth and really technique and real pin point, but in trucks it's just like, send it. Make it happen!"
In October of last year, the popular TV host of MTV's Challenge, which was in its 10th year running, crashed while competing at the Las Vegas stop of the Dew Tour action sports circuit.
"My plans are to race next year. . ." says Lavin. "I'm going to come in this winter, maybe December, January, February and really train, get some seat time and really be good at it so the truck is at one with me, so it feels like my feet again, just like my BMX bike. And then see if I can't make a run at it. . ."
"The Arrive & Drive program at SuperLites is really crazy that that's even possible. You know back in the day that was unheard of. Nobody could do that," Lavin says of entering into the world of off-road racing. "And so for it to be possible for everyone to be able to just race, I think it's really cool, especially guys like myself and other BMX and motocross pros that really have always dreamed of jumping in a truck and making it happen."
