Cradled deep within the sheer canyon walls are a handful of spec-built, stadium-style super trucks. Among them are the drivers who make up a class unto themselves. They are the first.

Considered by many the modern day icon of short course off-road racing, Carl Renezeder rallies toward victory against a stacked field of competitors, which has landed him onto the podium and into an onslaught of championships that has made him into the iconic face man of the two major brands he represents. He is the Lucas Oil and General Tire dynasty, delivering dominating wins as well as championships in Pro 4 Unlimited and Pro 2 Unlimited truck classes.

Ricky Johnson is a legend, plain and simple. The man has met U.S. presidents. He's an inductee of the Motorcycle Hall of Fame. And he's one of the most honored Motocross and Supercross athletes of all time. He made a name for himself in the 1980s as one of the great racers of all time and his record speaks for itself: 61 AMA national wins, seven of which were national championships.

Beginning at the age of 12 in motocross, Johnny Greaves has won races and championships in every level of competition. At 23, he switched to four wheels and soon earned success while buggy racing in SCORE off-road desert and SODA short-course off-road series (the precursor to Championship Off Road Racing - CORR).

A milestone in the emerging development of the virbrant spec truck racing class, SuperLite Championship will launch the SuperLite Off Road Racing School on July 14, featuring legendary racer Ricky Johnson as race instructor at its purpose-built short course off-road racing facility in Reno, Nevada.

As we geared up for the 2010 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Round 13 and 14 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, we were busy behind the scenes working with our friends at the 3D television channel, Wealth TV, which produced an indepth feature on the SuperLite Championship Arrive & Drive program for its Wealth On Wheels segment. The segment, hosted by Josh Middleton, who hops behind the wheel of a SuperLite, delves into the history of thriving truck racing operation and delivers a behind-the-scenes look into the lives and lifestyles of the racers and race organization.

CJ Greaves continues to add to his list of accomplishments in his young racing career by receiving Dirt Sports Magazine's 2010 Rookie of the Year Award. CJ was presented the award on February 5, 2011, in the Monster Energy pavilion at the Anaheim Supercross in front of a host of sponsors, dignitaries, and other invited guest for the event. CJ was selected from drivers in the entire off-road motorsports industry. Greaves received a specially engraved Oakley watch, a pair of custom designed Oakley/Dirt Sports sunglasses, an embroidered Oakley jacket, a glass plaque, and several other honorariums from Traxxas and other sponsors.

Building into a powerful motorsports crescendo, the 2010 SuperLite Championship Series funneled down into the finale at the Firebird International Raceway for the season-ending Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series showdown. It was decision day in the dirt. And with an army of world class extreme sports competitors vying for the coveted SuperLite Championship No. 1 plate, a scant 50 points separating the top five, a battle ensued upon the motocross style off-road truck track, and from the mayhem of the competition mosh pit, Rockstar Metal Mulisha’s Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg emerged to snatch the championship, beating out some of the best in the business.

It's tough to find anyone from the Road & Track Magazine staff looking to get dirty. And sure, behind the wheel of some of the fastest cars on the planet, one might say they're accustomed to flying. But in reality, it wasn't until ace journalist Jonathan Elfalan strapped into the seat of a SuperLite Championship truck, that the figure of speech truly earned its wings and dirt became the right of passage to the thrill fest of airborne adrenaline junkies.
